Honoring Our Heritage Patch

The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Honoring our Heritage patch offers girls of all grade levels an opportunity to learn about the history of Girl Scouting in the USA and about the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways. A Treasure Chest and Leader’s Notebook with resource materials is available for loan from each of our service centers and from the Norwich and Oneonta Community Development Managers. Each chest contains vintage uniforms, games, books, semaphore flags, photos, and other items that can be used in fulfilling some of the patch requirements. Other age-appropriate books, reference books and materials may be used as additional resources.

Call your nearest service center to reserve the Heritage Trunk for your troop or group today!

How to Earn the Heritage Patch

Girls earn the Heritage patch by completing the number of requirements designated for their grade level. At least one requirement must be selected from each of the program areas—Discover, Connect, and Take Action.

  • Daisy Girl Scouts (K–1): four requirements
  • Brownie Girl Scouts (2–3): four requirements
  • Junior Girl Scouts (4–5): six requirements
  • Cadette, Senor, and Ambassador Girl Scouts (6–12): eight requirements

Requirements may be modified depending on the ability of the girls. Keep in mind that girls can earn the Heritage patch again, with new requirements, at the next Girl Scout grade level. Requirements are described in the Leader’s Notebook contained in the Treasure Chest. Topics included in each program area are listed below.
