Schools might be closed; activities might be canceled—but Girl Scouting never stops! While your family practices social distancing, girls can take part in virtual and at home programming while keeping safe.

Not a Girl Scout (yet)? That's ok! We want you to join in too, and when you're ready, you can sign up for Girl Scouts to keep the adventure going!

Offering Virtual Meetings

Troop leaders, use the Volunteer Toolkit to help your girls earn badges on their own and during your virtual meetings. You can download and share badge requirements, set up meeting plans, contact parents and more. It's an easy way to keep everyone engaged and on track.

Here are some easy ideas for Girl Scout programs, topics, activities and those that use supplies commonly found in homes.

Community Service
From educating communities about food production and selling Treasury Bonds during WWI and the Spanish flu pandemic to planting victory gardens and training in first aid during WWII, Girl Scouts have always stepped up in times of need, and our current COVID-19 crisis is no different. All across our country and our world, Girl Scouts have leapt to the aid of others by engaging in wonderful acts of service and kindness.

Check out GSUSA’s National Service Projects for ways to serve your community during the pandemic.

The first project is letter-writing to people in nursing homes, senior residences and assisted living facilities—including the dedicated staff and caregivers. This long-distance hug is a way to share good thoughts with these vulnerable and loved community members.

Some other ideas:

  • Say thank you to the healthcare and emergency workers keeping us safe by creating a video, sending cards and notes, or sharing messages across social media—there are so many ways to show appreciation!
  • Create a blessing box to drop on a neighbor’s doorstep
  • Do a local litter sweep
  • Create Kindness Rocks and paint them with your Troop #
  • Donate books to a local “Little Library”
  • Take turns tending a community garden

What else can you do to make the world a better place during this challenging time?
