Thanks to the efforts of the Women of Distinction Committee and other generous council donors, Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways is able to award council-level Gold Award scholarships.
The Women of Distinction are an exceptional group of women who exhibit outstanding leadership through mentoring, community service and/or business; leadership that embodies the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Each fall, an event is held in Binghamton, NY to celebrate the annual Woman of Distinction. Proceeds from this event fund GSNYPENN's Gold Award scholarships.
Each year the council awards scholarships to projects demonstrating the highest level of leadership, sustainability and community impact among the current class of Gold Award Girl Scouts.
All Girl Scouts who have earned the Gold Award within the current membership year are automatically eligible for the GSNYPENN scholarships. Scholarships are awarded at the annual Gold Award Girl Scout celebration.
- The Kerrie Black Scholarship is in honor of our GSNYPENN staff member who was a lifelong Girl Scout and Regional Support Manager. Kerrie served her volunteers with excellence and was always willing to lend a hand to her fellow Girl Scout sisters.
- The Kelly Perkins Scholarship is in honor of a young woman who was a lifelong Girl Scout and camp staff member. Kelly impacted the lives of Girl Scouts at camp and in her community.
- The Marie Hepworth Scholarship is in honor of a woman who dedicated her life to supporting girl development through her 20+ years as the Executive Director of our legacy council, Indian Hills, and through her various volunteer activities in her community.
- The Women of Distinction Donor Scholarship was created to recognize the generosity of donors at our annual Women of Distinction event. While the scholarship funds for the three recurring Gold Award council scholarships above are raised by this event, this scholarship is available when there are extra funds that allow us to award additional scholarships.
