Journey Preparation: DBJ Think Like a Engineer Supply List
Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts will learn how to think like
a designer by participating in three hands-on design challenges.
You'll earn two awards on this Journey. The first one is called
the "Think Like an Engineer" award. You earn that for
solving problems like an engineer.
The second one is called the "Take Action" award. You earn that for creating a Take Action project that solves a problem in your community and uses what you've learned about engineering and technology. Your Take Action project will make a sustainable difference in the world.
For this Journey, you'll use the Design Thinking Process to Take Action. You'll work as one team to identify a problem, investigate why it happens and who it impacts, brainstorm lots of possible solutions for the problem, then choose one solution to plan out in more detail and bring to life. After you create your Take Action Project, you'll share it with others, just like engineers.
You will complete three (3) Design Challenges for this Journey. By
completing these three means you will have earned the Think Like an
Engineer Badge.
The Take Action Project you will be
completing on your own. You will receive a Google Slides link at the
end of the event that will help you with planning and completing your
Take Action Project.
We have four hours to complete the three design challenges. To help things run smoother and to help with time, I am asking that you please set up three stations in your home or wherever you will be doing the journey so that when I say it’s time to do X challenge you have all of your supplies ready to go.
We won’t have time to wait for you to gather your items. You
will need to have them grouped per design challenge and ready to go.
