Hot Glass Working Project Session: $36 per person*

* Sculpture - This 15-minute experience allows you to work with hot glass up close while staying on the cool end of the glassblowing iron at all times. You'll start by choosing the glass colors you want to use and the shape of your sculpture, and then partner with the museum's professional

glassblowers to create your design. You will blow into a blow hose, or use a foot pedal connected to compressed air, to inflate the glass while the experienced glassblower guides and shapes the glass with special tools. After your sculpture is shaped, it is removed from the blowpipe, and it is placed in an oven to begin an overnight slow cooling process.

* Ornament - This 15-minute experience allows you to work with hot glass up close while staying on the cool end of the glassblowing iron at all times. You'll start by choosing the glass colors you want to use and the shape of your ornament, and then partner with a professional glassblower to create your design. You will blow into a blow hose, or use a foot pedal connected to compressed air, to inflate the glass while the experienced glassblower guides and shapes the glass with special tools. After your ornament is shaped, it is removed from the blowpipe, and it is placed in an oven to begin an overnight slow cooling process.

* Flower - Ages 14 and up have the opportunity to shape and manipulate hot furnace glass in this glass sculpting experience. The museum's professional staff will guide you through this multi-step process. You choose the colors and pattern of the flower you'll be making, dress in the safety gear provided, then have a seat in the glassblower's bench. Museum staff will gather the glass out of the furnace, add the color and then bring the hot glass to the gaffer's bench where you are seated. You'll be using traditional glassmaking tools to stretch and shape molten glass. After the gather of glass is sculpted, the flower is placed in an oven to begin an overnight slow cooling process.

Fused Suncatcher Project Session: $26 per person*

Layering pieces of flat glass and heating them in a kiln oven until they melt together is called fusing. You'll start by creating a design using colored frit (small chunks of glass), thin glass strings and larger glass pieces. Museum staff will provide glass in a variety of colors and shapes for you to arrange in your design. Using non-toxic glue, you'll secure your design in place, and our professionals will heat the piece in the kiln oven overnight. The glass fuses together to create a single piece of glass.

You can create an original glass sun catcher, flat tile or curved tile in this Make Your Own Glass experience. Pieces must be left to cool overnight.

Sandblasting Project Session: $15 per person

This is a Make Your Own Glass project that you can take home the same day that you make it. In this introduction to the art of sandblasting, all ages are invited to be creative and apply any design to glass cups and dishes using stickers and tape. After your sticker design is complete, you will work with museum staff to make the design permanent by sandblasting your glass. Sandblasting creates a frosted look by scarring the surface with fine grains of sand propelled by compressed air. After the sandblasting process is complete, staff will wash the stickers off to reveal your permanent design. No heating or cooling is required for this activity, and you can take your creation home with you as soon as it's done.

*Final projects that need to cool overnight are available for pick-up the following day after 12 p.m. or may be shipped for an additional fee within the U.S. and Canada. Pickup is not available on Wednesdays from January 1-March 31. Shipping of final projects is not included in the registration fee; you will need to arrange pickup or pay at the event for shipping to your home.
