Before the start of Member Year 2024, our council’s Marketing & Communications department set a strategic goal to reinvigorate a Girl Scout-led Media Team. Our vision is for GSNYPENN Girl Scouts to gain new and exciting experiences and ways to represent their council while getting outside their comfort zone to gain confidence and bring a youth member voice and fresh perspective to our multimedia content.
We hope to eventually have member representation from every county we serve and that our Media Team gives girls a public platform to share their unique Girl Scout leadership experience. From participating in photo and video shoots to creating user-generated content for our social media channels to writing our Troop Times newsletter, these amazing Girl Scouts have already accomplished so much as we continue into MY2025.
One of our dedicated Media Team members, Alyson K., a Cadette from Troop 20118 in Oneida, N.Y., recently spoke with me about her experience. Since joining, Alyson has participated in video productions promoting our Treats, Reads & More Program, written articles for our newsletter and recently starred in an episode of our “Cookie Corner” 2025 Girl Scout Cookie Program tips and tricks video series.
