One of Rayna’s favorite experiences to-date was working on the GAB’s supply drive for Ukraine. It was organized during the post-COVID-19 period when supplies were hard to come by and people in war-torn Ukraine were in desperate need of help.
“We got so many supplies! Sorting through all of it was amazing, seeing how much people wanted to help…it just kind of felt like, wow, I was a part of this,” she said.
This was a very impactful moment; it showed Rayna the power of Girl Scout leadership within a community and also the impact it can make on the world.
After working on the supply drive, Rayna knew she wanted to do more to help people in her community. As a powerful leader, she’s decided to work towards earning our Movement’s highest award, the Girl Scout Gold Award. For her take action project, Rayna said she is, “Working with my school to create a mentorship program for seventh graders.”
The purpose of the project is to help students transition into their first year of high school. Rayna talked about this being a big change in their lives and that she wants to make it easier on them. Although this is not a global issue, she is still able to make a difference for youth in her community
Rayna is an exceptional example of why we celebrate International Day of the Girl. She shows strength through her community service, extracurricular activities and heart and strives to pave the way for future Girl Scouts and female leaders. Rayna represents the truest meaning of building girls of courage, confidence and character!
