Binghamton, N.Y. (September 13, 2023) — The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) Council is pleased to announce that Shanel Boyce will be honored at its 2023 Women of Distinction event on Tuesday, September 26. The breakfast runs 7:30-9 a.m. at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Binghamton, 225 Water St. Tickets are available, visit gsnypenn.org/wod. Cost is $45 per person; registration closes September 19.
Women of Distinction are exceptional women who exhibit outstanding leadership through mentoring, community service and/or business. This leadership embodies the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Shanel Boyce is a practicing clinical therapist and licensed practical nurse. A seasoned community organizer, activist, advocate, and consultant, she specializes in intersectional anti-racism education and advocacy. Boyce holds a breadth of personal and professional experience in housing, criminal justice reform, and education. A founding member of B.A.W.S.E. (Black Activist Women for Social Equity), she’s also the proud mom of a Girl Scout.
“We are honored to bestow this recognition upon Shanel in celebration of her leadership and impact on the greater Binghamton community,” says GSNYPENN CEO Julie Dale.
Proceeds from the celebration support GSNYPENN Gold Award Girl Scout scholarships. The “mark of the truly remarkable,” the Gold Award is the highest achievement Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn and since 1916 has stood for excellence and leadership. Through sustainable Gold Award projects, millions of girls have positively impacted their communities and the world. Gold Award Girl Scouts are the dreamers and doers who take “make the world a better place” to the next level. To be selected for a council scholarship, recipients’ projects must demonstrate the highest levels of leadership, sustainability, measurability and national/global links among the current class.
