Vestal, N.Y. (June 20, 2024) – Vestal Girl Scouts Shruthi Poranki, Ariyana Verbitskiy and Vivienne Juriga have built a garden at Ideal Senior Living Center in Endicott to help engage the center’s residents and local community as part of their Girl Scout Silver Award project.
The seventh graders attend Vestal Middle School and are members of Troop 60405, part of the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) Council.
The Silver Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette (grades 6-8) can earn. Girls who pursue it look around their neighborhoods and/or schools and develop a project to make their community better in the process.
“Our goal with this Girl Scout Silver Award project is to make the seniors’ lives and each day better by adding a garden for them to enjoy,” says Vivienne Juriga.
An opening ceremony is planned for Wednesday, June 26, from 4-5 p.m. at Ideal Senior Living Center, 600 High Avenue, Endicott. The public and media are invited to attend; please park in visitor parking and check in at the front desk.
