The Solar STEM Lab at our outdoor property, Camp Amahami in Deposit, N.Y., is where curiosity meets innovation.
Designed to spark imagination and inspire discovery, we opened this one-of-a-kind learning environment in 2020.
The lab gives our GSNYPENN Girl Scouts, program partners and the community opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, mathematics and renewable energy through hands-on, real-world experiences.
The lab itself is an interactive teaching tool. Live monitoring displays allow visitors to track the solar array’s energy production in real time and explore historical performance data, helping them understand how renewable energy powers our camp every day.
Throughout the building, transparent “truth panels” reveal the systems behind the walls and beneath the floors and provide a unique look at how sustainable buildings are designed and operated.
At Girl Scouts, we know confidence in STEM begins with opportunity. Through engaging, hands-on experiences, girls in grades K–12 explore robotics, engineering, coding, environmental science, renewable energy and emerging technologies in an all-girl environment where they are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, collaborate and lead.
